This was more of a layover than an actual trip, but since it was my first visit to London I was very excited about it. I was on my way to Africa and had a good 20 hours to spend there, although about half of that was spent sleeping. As luck would have it we had a tail-wind on our way across the pond so arrived an hour early! I checked myself into the hotel and took a nap before heading out on my adventure.
I had arranged ahead of time to meet up with a friend at Piccadilly Square, so got my first taste of the Underground. Since my hotel was right at the airport and the Underground runs directly from the airport to Piccadilly Square, I managed to actually get to my destination without getting lost. Cathy was there waiting for me, so we set off to walk the town a bit and see what we could see.
I have to admit: I’d just spent a good 25+ hours crammed into an airplane with hundreds of people so got absolutely no rest whatsoever. I was so exhausted by the time I landed that even the one-hour nap I took at the hotel didn’t refresh me very much. I was basically a walking Zombie that whole evening: I barely remember anything Cathy told me about what we were seeing.
Thankfully, Cathy was kind enough to go through all my photos for me later and identify what I’d taken pictures of, so I have something to tell you all here on my website!
So: without further ado –
