The new drain that I put on the tub drained straight down, instead of the angle the original drain was on, so I needed to notch out a floor joist timber to make room for it.

While I had the pipe cut I was cleaning it out because the old tub/shower didn't drain very well. It had the same growth in it that the 4 inch pipe from the toilet had, kind of hard and sugary. While I was knocking the stuff off the inside of the pipe, someone upstairs flushed the toilet. Even though this pipe is upstream of the toilet, the line is flat enough there was quite a bit of backwash that came out the end. It washed a bunch of that crusty growth I'd just loosened up out the open end and onto the floor.

Nothing an hour or so with some old towels and a gallon of bleach can't clean up though. If I'd just put my hand over the end I could have just washed my hand but my first reaction was to get away, haha...

These pictures also show, if you look really close, the new Pex pipe going up through the floor joist timber to supply the tub/shower.
